I had a friend come over to learn how to do freemotion sewing, and so while she was making her one I started making this one.

I made it on Friday and Saturday and sold it to another friend on Sunday so I was really chuffed.

It’s a mixture of vintage doilies, and newer fabrics. I love how with this kind of art you can just mix and match and make up abstract art and it all works no matter what you do 🤍

Below is the newer fabric I used for the houses…

My sewing room…

So many pretty vintage doilies and so much time over the holidays … and rain, lots of rain, make for a creative brain.

The making of…

This is a take on free motion sewing but using embroidery stitching and beautiful lace and embroidered doilies bought at second hand shops.

One off unique design.
Ready for framing or make it to something of your choice like a cushion or journal cover.

It’s the holidays and so perfect conditions for sewing…

I’ve done a Beach Life fabric art before and totally enjoyed it and felt it was time to do another. A warm but wet day in Maketu, NZ, created the perfect mood …. Oh and a day off!

The evolution…

Highlights…

I found a beautiful frame at a second hand shop on Saturday which inspired me to make this design. Made from up-cycled linen and embroidery pieced together.

I felt the Scripture “He heals, the wounds of the broken-hearted” captured the mood of the colours … soothing, calming and gentle to the soul.

Hi there!  I thought being in lockdown (in NZ) for the past two weeks I would have done way more creatively, but to be honest, I’ve been too busy, especially with work!  Anyway, a long Easter holiday weekend is perfect to have enough time to start to create.  So I just made this up as I went along…

Love your life ~ Freemotion sewing

I started by adding the red floral square and then picked up other pieces of fabric and it just emerged from there.

Window of opportunity … freemotion sewing

Maybe my next one will be bubbles … stay in your bubble!

So much fabric, so little time! I really enjoyed making this.  So many colours and patterns…

As you’ve probably guessed by now, if you know me at all, I love little houses!  I also love to cross-stitch at night when I’m watching Netflix.  I feel like sitting watching Netflix isn’t a waste of time if I’m doing something!    So I cross-stitched this little house without a clue what it would end up like. I had it sitting with some other fabric and the stripes and floral just jumped out at me and I’m pleased to say I love the finished item.

I bought the floral fabric from AlieExpress. (I’ve been buying quite a bit of stuff from them lately.

Hi there!

The thing about the holidays is that you have the time to be creative, make a mess in your craft room, and leave it like that for a few days.  Yesterday morning I dug out a tiny cross-stitch which I would have done about a year ago.  I was going to frame it in a small frame and then thought it would be fun to make it bigger and add the free motion sewing component.  And the result is this little picture (frame is 28x36cm) which I really enjoyed making.  A friend asked me to make something for a baby room and I think this would be perfect.
